Ngayogjazz is an annual event of jazz music festival in Yogyakarta. It has different themes for each year, and they’re always sustainable. In 2011, Ngayogjazz had “Nandoer Jazzing Pakarti” as its theme. It was related to one of Javanese proverbs “Nandur wohing pakarti” which means applying the values of jazz as daily music. And this year, Ngayogjazz had “Dengan Ngejazz kita Tingkatkan Swasembada Jazz” (By playing jazz we increase jazz’s self sufficiency) as its theme. It means expectation of jazz musicians development, especially youth who had performed in Ngayogjazz can build their own creativity and career. Both the musicians and Jazz Communities from some cities showed their good management of their communities and resulting jazz musicians and new jazz groups.
Ngayogjazz 2012 was held on November 18 on Desa Wisata Brayut (Brayut tourism village), Sleman. Many top jazz musicians/band from Jakarta, international and regional jazz communities perfomed in this event, such as Idang Rasjidi, ESQI:EF (Syaharani and Queenfireworks), Benny Likumahuwa and Barry Likumahuwa Project, Jen Shyu, I Know You Well Miss Clara, Erwin Zubiyan and friends, etc. Ngayogjazz was held for 12 hours and it took no charge.
